Region:Waiheke Island

Cellaring:This wine will reward careful cellaring for 3-5 years.

Wine Style:

This ‘island nectar’ displays an alluring aroma of apricots, honey and floral characters.  The palate is luscious, with intense dried fruit flavours, balanced by good acidity and a long lingering finish.

Winemaking:To produce this wine we hand selected only the best bunches.  As the bins filled with shrivelled, raisined berries, the staff thought to themselves that Neill was wasting their time.
The juice was so concentrated, the grapes had to be left to soak in individual bins.  Following a gentle press it went into a French oak barrique for fermentation.  With no chilled space in the barrel hall, the chefs had to be convinced to make room for this single barrel of wine in one of their cool rooms.
It was in the chefs chiller that Waiheke Island’s first ever late harvest wine was born —Sweet Gloria.
We’ve still not heard the end of it from Neill.  Given the run on stock from  staff allocations, it seems that he was right.
